Hot Dip galvanizing is a process where iron or steel products are cleaned and then submerged in molten zinc. The zinc metallurgically bonds to the steel product providing a very durable coating that provides both barrier and cathodic protection against corrosion.

Service Life

Hot dip galvanized coatings provide superior protection from corrosion of steel parts. The service life is dependent on the environment and thickness of the zinc coating. The following chart depicts the service life for various atmospheric environments based on the coating thickness (refer to ASTM A123 and ASTM A153 specifications for minimum coating weights).
